WORLD EARTH DAY CELEBRATIONS

The Eco and Environment Club, Qudrat of Mount Carmel School, Chandigarh conducted a series of activities to celebrate World Earth Day. These activities were aimed at promoting environmental awareness and encouraging students to take action to protect the environment.

1. TREE PLANTATION:
On Wednesday, 19th April 2023, the club organized a tree plantation drive. Students from various classes participated in the plantation drive, and together they planted several trees in the school premises. The tree plantation drive not only helped to increase the green cover of the school but also raised awareness about the importance of trees in mitigating climate change and their role in preserving the environment.
2. POSTER MAKING COMPETETION:

CLASSES VI-VII: POLLUTION FREE EARTH
CLASSES IX-X:  EARTH-A HOME FOR ALL
On 20th April 2023, the club organized a poster-making competition for students of classes 6 to 10. The competition saw enthusiastic participation from students, who showcased their creativity and artistic skills through their posters. The posters displayed powerful messages on the need for environmental conservation and the importance of individual actions in preserving the environment.
3. SPEECH
On 21st April 2023, the club delivered a speech on the topic “Challenges faced by the environment and steps we can take to overcome them.”   The speech emphasized the importance of reducing carbon emissions, conserving natural resources, and adopting eco-friendly practices.
Overall, the activities conducted by the Eco and Environment Club, Qudrat, to celebrate World Earth Day were impactful in raising awareness and promoting environmental consciousness among students. These activities provided students with the opportunity to learn about the environment, its challenges, and the actions that can be taken to protect it. By participating in these activities, students learned the importance of individual actions in preserving the environment and the role they can play in creating a more sustainable future.

PROJECT WORK:
COMPOST PIT: HOW TO DO?
1. Add leaves to a compost pit, or pile them up in a corner of your yard.
2. Top the leaves with a nitrogen-rich item, like cottonseed meal, grass clippings, food waste etc.
3. Build the pile up until it is two – three feet tall and wide.
4. Turn the compost once a month.
5. Use manure to nurture your plants.
