SPECTACULAR FIELD & TRACK EVENTS MARK MOUNT CARMEL SCHOOL SPORTS MEET-2022

Mount Carmel School, Sector 47-B, Chandigarh celebrated its Annual Sports Day 2022, today the  25thNovember, 2022 amidst great mirth, verv and camaraderie. The school playground was overflowing with zeal, passion and excitement as everyone  looked forward to this day, especially post pandemic, being physically present and participating in the events, was a completely different experience for the students.

The celebration commenced with the scripture reading from the holy Bible, followed by a special prayer for the occasion by the School Cabinet Members. The Head Boy extended a floral and formal welcome to the Founders and Directors, Dr. Earnest Charles J Samuel and Dr. Annie Charles Samuel, the Principal, Dr. Parveena John Singh, including other guests and dignitaries present. This was entailed by the hoisting of the School Flag and the School Anthem. The Founders and Directors, Dr Earnest Charles J Samuel and Dr. Annie Charles Samuel were presented a spectacular and well-synchronized Guard of Honour by various contingents of the school in their March past which included the four Houses, the N.S.S, Disaster Management, First Aid and the majestic School Band contingents, rendering the spectators speechless and awestruck.

The Founder and Director, Dr. Annie Charles Samuel declared the Sports Meet ‘open’ and the School Band presented an energetic and spellbinding display. Thereafter, the school Head Boy administered the games oath to all the participants. The School Choir wished the Founder and Director Dr. Annie Charles Samuel on her birthday by singing the ‘Happy Birthday Song’, followed by releasing the balloons by the Founder and Director,  Dr. Annie Charles Samuel, marking the expression of joy and merriment and also that sky is the limit for Mount Carmelites. This was followed by an address by the Founder and Director, Dr. Annie Charles Samuel, who is herself an ardent sports enthusiast.

Among many field displays that embellished the day’s events and mesmerized the audience were, the Welcome Dance, Aerobics, Dumbbell Drill, Taekwondo, Karate, Lazium Dance and Mass P.T. by the students of all the four Houses of the School, involving mass student participation which splattered on the field, a riot of hues and vibrance. All the field displays were interspersed with exciting and nail biting Track events wherein, the Foundational Wing (Pre Nursery- Class II) had; Funny Bunny Carrot Race, Match the Colour Race, Drop the Ball in the Bucket, Zigzag Race, Collecting the Domes Race, Hurdle Race and One Legged Race with Balloon.

The Primary Wing (Classes II-V)  had ; Sit and Pop the Balloon Race, Hoops and Obstacle Race, Three Legged Race, Dash to Solve Race, Dribbling the Ball Race and Skipping Race.

The Senior Wing (Classes VI-XII) participants had 100 Metres, 200 Metres and 4×100 Relay Races. The zealous student spectators constantly cheered and applauded their favourite  participating athlete.

In the subsequent Prize Distribution, the proud winners of various events were felicitated with medals, trophies and certificates. Keats House contingent was adjudged the ‘Best Marching Contingent’. Simranjot Singh of class IX-D was felicitated with ‘Best Boy Athlete 2022’ award & Mansi of class X-C was declared the ‘Best Girl Athlete 2022.’

In the Closing Ceremony, the Sports Meet was declared ‘closed’ by the Founder and Director Dr. Annie Charles Samuel and the Vote of Thanks was rendered by the Head Girl.

The Sports Meet saw its culmination in the National Anthem.

The Founder and Director, Dr. Annie Charles Samuel in her address congratulated all the participants, appreciating them in displaying true sportsmanship. She called each one of them a winner and praising them she added that their active and continued participation in sports and athletics would pay them rich dividends in terms of fitness, well- being and happiness in future and that should be considered as a highly cherished trophy. She elaborated that sports specially team sports engender purposeful, social relationships and instill plenty of values that helps students to cruise through life with honesty and responsibility for themselves and others. It also allows students to be agile and fit that only increases the concentration in academics and the willingness to perform better in any field. Lauding the spellbinding performances, she added that Sports Day is an annual tradition of the school and it was a sheer joy to see so much enthusiasm among the young participants.

The Principal, Dr. Parveena John Singh conveyed her delight in seeing everyone blooming in the spirit of the occasion of Sports Day. She lauded the enthusiastic participants’ diligence and perseverance in preparation of various track displays for the main day. She stressed on the importance of sports and fitness especially post pandemic in relation to discipline, focus, dedication, commitment and teamwork.
